limited reissue of a very rare and highly in-demand 1986 12 inch from indian ocean, alias of late great disco legend and sleeping bag founder arthur russell. although russells original version on side a is fantastic in itself, the stunning abstract walter gibbons mix on side b is where its all at. with irrepressible madcap gibbons at the helm, the track mutates into a strangely subversive dancefloor odyssey way ahead of its time which still sounds futuristic today. with a raw sparse experimental sound, this progressive sonic journey rolls along for over 10 minutes pulsating with a jazz-influenced interplay of funk-heavy bongos, stabbing synths, off-the-wall vocals and russells trademark cello. one of the great moments to come out of the vibrant art/disco not disco crossover scene of 80s new york - dont miss your chance to bag a vinyl copy of this obscure gem.

when the house music phenomenon was beginning, chicago djs like ron hardy and new yorkers such as frankie knuckles and larry levan would edit records for their own purposes, removing the parts they felt to be superfluous, concentrating instead on extending grooves and hooks, often adding their own basic synth lines and toughening up the percussion with what have now become classic synthesizers and drum machines. warehouse classics vol.1 holds 4 killer tracks going from obscure disco to new wave, first popularised at the music box and rarely heard anywhere else. sir leon greg (another incarnation of perseus traxx) jams out then reinforces some edits of forgotten classics with a raw & personal analogue treatment for a devastating full effect on the dance floor, that is a far cry from the proliferation of over-produced squeaky-clean software edits. these are basic, raw ideas thrown down quickly and capturing the energy on 1/4 inch tape before moving on to the next set of sounds. musically, its as delightfully funky and uncomplicated as youd expect, a mesh of disco tracks and heavy, effect laden, machine-funk. essential item!!

sleep ds bacon ep is the next offering from sydneys excellent death strobe imprint. sleep d are a couple of young cats from melbourne, the production duo are sure to be an integral part of the deep house explosion coming from their city, spearheaded by the likes of tornado wallace, fantastic man and the melbourne deepcast crew. the record has a range of flavours all tied together by a fundamental warmth and soulfulness. the title track flows and floats in a dreamlike state, whilst simultaneously nailing the groove from beat one. bubbles vs the cat takes it up a notch, entering the club realm with rich bass and tight rhythms. their remix of chet fakers love & feeling is certain to give any dance floor a collective orgasm, oozing an erotic strangeness as it heaves and thrusts away, while ischa has a tickle of techno thrown into the mix and, despite its druggy sedation, has a hidden energy for dancing feet. one limited pressing.

from the tropics comes whiskey disco, a sneaky re-edit label bent on dredging the decanter for diffident dancefloor genius from latent disco perpetrators. its loosely connected to sleazy mcqueen and his assorted cohorts. whiskey disco no.13, ruff n stuff, can hardly be contained on a single plate of wax. all four tracks have been tested and audience approved! on the a, deep&discos rework of i wanna dance with somebody and alkalinos ruff n stuff are both stripped back and bass laden grooves. the b has two mid-tempo grooves from newcomer, debonair and portuguese duo, johnwaynes.

on >work that shit party<, a fingers inc. style rhythm buttresses a two-note riff, a crackling male voice filtering in from the ether. a pinging keyboard zips around before that two-note flicker expands and contracts, warps and wheedles. but around halfway in, a female vocal refrain of >gonna work it out< breaks fat lacerations into pinholes, blaring keyboards seeping in through the gaps and crevices. then, as with >d117<, it is the congealing of all these disparate elements: a work it out from fischerspooners lizzy yoder sashaying with the two-note riff, the keyboards bouncing off the ceiling, and flaring hi-hats fraying the surface played by pat mahoney (lcd soundsystem). each portion is given its due, only to make the ensuing combination that much more enthralling.

rob was an enigmatic recording artist from ghana who cut two albums for the legendary essiebons label in 1977. neither of these were big domestic hits at the time and have since become prized amongst collectors in recent years. the title track from this lp was always one of the most popular on the first soundway release ghana soundz and over the years soundway has been asked many times to re-issue the lp in its entirety.

may 2012 sees the 8th release on krd, picking right up where the label was at with its last release a year ago. >bilal / spider< introduces the new project on land, a solo vehicle for label head edoardo arengi, who previously was in charge of production duties of the shadow sync releases. the title cut >bilal< again attests to edoardos technicall skills - almost twenty years of production experience do indeed show here. a strong minimalistic groove unerringly aims at the heart of the dance floor, and once the classic ride cymbal comes in, >bilal” is sure to have the people moving. for the flip, label owner and producer edoardo arengi teams up with a young gun of berlins techno scene. >spider<, produced together with rudmatis, to his dj-peers known as rødhåd of the dytopian music collective, goes for the darker end of the floor with a hypnotic bassline and slowly modulated sequencer lines. once you are caught in the net, there is no way out!

straight from germany, this talented producer delivered some of the best deep house music around. entitled >the first floor ep<, it starts with >show me< which is one of those eminently soulful house tracks with a sparse approach to production, all the elements sounding so crisp and distinct in the mix but judged perfectly. whilst >rooted< is a louche head nodder supreme. on the flip side, with >got that< hes creating an all-enveloping atmosphere with its oven-warm pads and rich analogue bass, punctuated with jazzy chords and vocal murmurings. >defense< showcases hes excellent knack for crafting moodymann style textures with the depth to boot, combining a solid rhythmic snap with drawn out vocal landscapes and detroit-referencing melodies. and to last,>trouble< is all brisk, upright percussive layers splayed over swooping disco filtration. nicks approaching house from various angles and tempos and naturally theres plenty of deft usage of samples, such an ep just demonstrate how on top of their game skylax / wax classic is right now - big tip!

martin brodins second single from the forthcoming album which is due for june 2012. it follows the successful badabing which featured diskjokke as remixer. strings attack is all about the strings for disco. ok,now you may think he gone all cheesy here, but that’s totally wrong.it still have the funkyness and groove it needs to be a full-fledged disco anthem in our ears. and we invited two of the most prolific producers out there to make this a rock solid release. switzerlands finest, headman (robi insinna), who we all know from his own relish label and releases on gomma. he turn the original to an uber-cool bass-laden track and makes it a bit more in-your-face to speak, while the original is a bit more freestyle. second out is spanish born ilya santana with his funky mellow take. its a perfect remix for those beach parties we all love.

wncl recordings tenth and final release in its 10 inch series is west norwood cassette librarys own coming on strong. the a side original mix was produced by chris simmonds, legend of the uk underground, and recorded at cross section records own house proud studios. the b side remixer should need no introduction. pangaea strips down the original samples to the bare bones and, predictably, delivers the unpredictable.

what is techno is the first single to be taken from techlegend in the makin florian meindls long awaited debut album waves (1-12)inch, due for release soon on his very own flash recordings. what is it techno? what is house? good question and its the doubt that drives you on the dancefloor. florians original is perfectly crafted deep groovy tech. a delicate melody belies the raw power, generated here by the growling bass and drum line. ramping up the filth factor and still riding high from the release of their second city ep are boys noizes, shadow dancer. matching detroit synths with sinister bubbling acid the manchester duo create a beast of a mix that also displays an equal amount of beauty.

three years have passed since the last moon harbour inhouse compilation came out. now >moon harbour inhouse vol.4< is on its way. in accordance with the tried and tested concept, this release also showcases the work of current moon harbour artists. in addition to exclusive tracks by matthias tanzmann, luna city express, dan drastic, ekkohaus, martinez, italoboyz, andy catana and blind minded, special guests like reboot, guido schneider, boris werner and tini & marc antona are also represented on this compilation. the list of artists clearly demonstrates that moon harbour has developed into a label with international scope and appeal. this sampler was compiled and mixed by dan drastic, who has been part of moon harbours artist roster for more than seven years and recently released his >noodle stories ep< on our label.he regularly hosts the moon harbour nights at the leipzig club distillery and is one of the most active moon harbour deejays, together with matthias tanzmann and luna city express

corking new remix 12inch! spacepops (originally released on doser009) getting some special treatment from donato dozzy - one of our heroes from the more psychedelic & percussive side of the techno world. the track hints towards club use while luring ears into the avant garde through seductive tweaks of the ems synth, freak inspector, from madteos infamous memoria album, gets a total re-mash by jamal moss aka hieroglpyphic being- left to brew for a few years in the morphine curing closet and now at optimum maturity for its release. two masters of their respective games meeting over the sides of this 12inch with more in common than wed previously imagine tip!

ander-traxx is a fresh label operating out of glasgow with the intent of releasing righteous underground house, and although mainly a platform for the labels founder alex-ander to showcase his own productions, ander-traxxs remit also includes the presentation of unknown talent for future releases. for this first release, alex steps up to the plate to deliver because of me, followed by 3 remixes from artists born and raised in glasgow. the original kicks things off with its intro of glacial pads and jittery hats, before quickly delving into a seriousely deep groove brimming with melodic layers. although because of me gives a strong nod to the recent developements of producers like omar s and kyle hall, it undoubtedly has the hallmarks of an alex-ander production, his unique arrangements coming to the forefront while still complimenting the crisp percussion that drives the track forward. carlos nilmmns (co founder of the formidable solab production unit) mix is a much more off-kilter and submerged affair. nilmmns plays down the epic quality of the original and adds chugging rhythmics and sweetcured piano work for a lesson in divine repetition. mesumas feedback mix goes in for the dancefloor attack, not surprising for a gentleman whos previous work has seen releases on hardgroove and seventh sign. rolling toms and a booming kick meet aquatic vocal samples and spectral harmonicas, and will still please those partial to deeper sounds. last up to give because of me the rework treatment is meschi (lunar disko, lux, snuff traxx), who mixes his chicago influenced analogue stylings perfectly with the source material. stripped down crescendos build up to a euphoric drop, and meschis elated melodies bring another twist to this excercise in deep funk. because of me is one of those rare e.ps that works just as well in a non-club enviroment as it does on the dancefloor. with this warning shot, alex-ander will surely be capturing the ears of many in 2012 and beyond.
